“Grammar Fun Free”
This learning app for iPod/iPad can be used for further individual or group practice in identifying parts of speech. “Grammar Fun Free” is a free kid-friendly app that allows children to practice identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Students can choose to work with only one type of speech or all of them at the same time by turning the nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs “off or on”. Please note that the adverbs in the app are advanced, because they are used to not only modify verbs, but also adjectives and other adverbs. Students will likely be able to figure it out on their own through the process of elimination or the teacher can use this as a way to extend the learning. When the game begins, the students work in pairs or individually looking at one sentence at a time. The students have to drag the correct part of speech on top of the associated word in the sentence. If they drag the wrong part of speech over a word, a big “X” will appear. If they use the correct part of speech, a checkmark will appear, and the student will be able to go onto the next sentence. |
“Grammar Jammers”
This learning app for iPod/iPad can be used for further instruction on parts of speech and how they are used in sentences. This can be used for independent or small group practice. “Grammar Jammers” is available for free in the primary edition for grades K-5, and it’s also available in elementary and middle school editions for $2.99. In the primary edition, students are able to click on Adjectives, Contractions, Nouns, Pronouns, Punctuation, Sentences, and Verbs. By clicking on either one of these options, the app will sing different songs about each part of speech and give definitions and examples of how it is used in a sentence. After singing the song about the part of speech, students are able to take a quiz and pick out that part of speech in different sentences. Once they complete the quiz, students will get a star beside that part of speech and will be able to move on to the next one. |
